New toy day

Mr Stuff

I like new toy day, there is a reason I was give the nickname Mr Stuff, and today is a fine new toy day. Yesterday I had a call from my mobile provider telling me that I was up for an upgrade so I had a look on their website and decided I’d go for the shiny Nokia 5800, it’s effectively Nokia’s take on an iPhone. I really want an iPhone but changing operator at the mo is out of the question so I went for this instead.

Not had much of a play yet as I’m transferring everything across from my old phone but am really looking forward to a play this afternoon

Happy anniversary to us

Mr Stuff

4 years ago Mrs Stuff and I got married in the middle of a swimming pool on the sunny island of Rhodes. It doesn’t feel like 4 years but me being ill for most of the last 2 years probably adds to that. Hopefully I’ll be well enough for us to have a nice meal this evening but we’ll just have to wait and see.

For anyone interested here is a Google Map pic of the small hut in the middle of the pool where we had the ceremony.

See the herd

Mr Stuff

I’ve been getting a bit tired of putting up loads of little posts about how bad I’m feeling, and I’m sure you’re getting tired too, so for a change I’m going to show you my herd.

On my 21st birthday a friend of mine bought me a small brass elephant that kind of became a lucky charm until I lost it a few years ago. It was a bit of a shame but there you go, then Mrs Stuff bought me a new lucky elephant which I again lost. I think in the end I’ve lost about 4 or so of them.

But since becoming ill I’ve managed to not lose them anymore and have built up a nice little herd of them. To be honest I don’t think they’re bringing me much luck but I like to hope they are. And for your viewing pleasure here they are. Some of the more observant may notice a rabbit in there but the elephants seem to like him so he stays.

What a crappy day

Mr Stuff

Yesterday was a fairly nasty day for me where I felt really crappy and there was nothing I could do about it. I had all the nausea, abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, hot and cold flushes and some light headedness thrown in for good measure. I took all the medication that I can safely take in one day and none of it really made a dent in the symptoms. As a result I’ve been up since 2.30 this morning still feeling bad.

Hopefully it will calm down today but on the bright side it’s only 7 weeks until I get to see my new consultant.

Now that impressed me

Mr Stuff

Shadow ComplexThe other day I was looking for a new game to play and came across the demo of Shadow Complex, an Xbox Live Arcade title and kinda liked it so I thought I’d get myself some MS points and give it a go. It costs 1200 points (about £10 or so) and have to say I’m well impressed.

It’s a side scrolling platformer very much inspired by Super Metroid and Castlevania, 2 games that I love. My initial playthrough took me about 8 hours or so as I wanted to get 100% of the items which is more time that I have spent on some full price retail games. If it was about twice the size then I could see it as a proper retail release and I would buy it.

So if you have 1200 MS points burning a hole in your virtual wallet then I would definitely recommend this if you like platformers.

What the Doc said

Mr Stuff

Yesterday I went to see my doctor about my new pain and he didn’t really seem that concerned. It’s not near any of the major organs and has 2 options; get better and go away or get worse. If it gets better then all good and if it gets worse then it will be worth looking into.

Not quite the advice I was looking for since I could have come up with those 2 options. So we’ll wait and see

Now that’s new

Mr Stuff

Yesterday was for the most part a fairly normal day for me, woke up quite groggy with some abdominal pain and nausea but manageable. But at about 5 or so that all changed as I had a new pain, one that I haven’t had before.

It came on quite strong and stabby which was surprising and it’s a lot lower than my usual pain. So I called NHS Direct to see if it was the kind of thing I should be concerned about and they said I should monitor it and see how it goes. If it gets worse then it’s worth me seeing my doctor so that he can have a poke about with it.

It was fairly concerning at the time given it’s a new twist on my symptoms but I’m keeping an eye on it to see if it gets worse. Fortunately my pain management drugs do keep it in check but I’m not sure if that is a good thing or not. Should I ignore it and fill myself with Co-Codamol or should I get it checked out? I think I’ll see how it goes today and make my mind up based on that.

It seemed like a good idea

Mr Stuff

It was a nice sunny day yesterday so we decided to have a BBQ, which in principal was a great idea, in practise not so much. We were planning on starting at about 4 so that it was still sunny and the BBQ would be out of the way once it started to get cold but at about 3 or so I started to feel really nauseous. As people started to turn up I felt a bit worse but was hoping that some food would help, but it didn’t and I started to get abdominal cramps as well. So for most of the BBQ I was either sitting inside feeling like crap or wandering up and down the garden trying to walk off the cramps. When everyone went I pretty much went straight to bed only to get up at 3.

But it was good to see people and to those that came for the BBQ I wasn’t being rude by wandering off I just felt really crappy and I hope you had a good time.

The long awaited stats update

Mr Stuff

I know that since I first put up the stats from the Nokia Sports Tracker you’ve all been wanting more, and who can blame you. So I’m going to update you all on the latest stats which is a total of the stats from all of my journeys so far. So fasten your seatbelt and get ready to fill your face with stats

This is from the 38 activities I’ve got in there since I started on the 20th July

Distance: 42.32 miles
Duration: 12:11:26
Average speed: 3.5 mph
Max speed: 39.2mph (I included a bus journey so this is not just a GPS mistake)

Max pace: 1.31 min/mile
Total steps: 56585, 89/min

Now come on try to tell me you didn’t enjoy that

What Keanu knows

Mr Stuff

Last night we were round at Eor and Buurds for some pizza, which didn’t agree with me and I’ve been up since 4 but that’s not the point, and on the TV was Bram Stoker’s Dracula which contains one of my favourite lines ever delivered in a bad english accent. But unfortunately everyone was talking when the line was delivered, I couldn’t remember exactly when it was said, so I’ve found the section on Youtube for all to enjoy. The line is said at around 6:37 or so if you can be bothered to watch that much.

So that’s that out of the way.
