Games n Stuff

Mr Stuff

It’s been a while since I last updated on my increasing gamerscore and current games so here you go.

My gamerscore is now up to just over 39,000 and should break the 40,000 barrier by the end of the month due to the achievements I have to get on my current games, which is nice.

As for games I have been through a few in the last few months but have been trading like the wind and am currently down to just 3 games but they are good ones. I have Ghostbusters, written by and starring the original cast, and it is awesome as I get to play with a proton pack and blow shit up.

Next we have Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which is probably one of if not the best first person shooters about at the mo, and I love it. There was some controversy when it was released due to one level where you go to an airport with a few terrorist mates and kill a lot of innocent civilians. It’s all part of the story as you are undercover with the terrorist organisation, but it is a little unsettling to kill all the innocents, but they gave the game an update so you can skip the mission if you want to.

Lastly we have the sequel to one of my favourite games of the last few years, Assassin’s Creed. I’ve only just started playing it, it only came out this morning, but so far it is looking good.

Now that impressed me

Mr Stuff

Shadow ComplexThe other day I was looking for a new game to play and came across the demo of Shadow Complex, an Xbox Live Arcade title and kinda liked it so I thought I’d get myself some MS points and give it a go. It costs 1200 points (about £10 or so) and have to say I’m well impressed.

It’s a side scrolling platformer very much inspired by Super Metroid and Castlevania, 2 games that I love. My initial playthrough took me about 8 hours or so as I wanted to get 100% of the items which is more time that I have spent on some full price retail games. If it was about twice the size then I could see it as a proper retail release and I would buy it.

So if you have 1200 MS points burning a hole in your virtual wallet then I would definitely recommend this if you like platformers.

So I got me a copy of Batman: Arkham Asylum and so far it is living up to the hype very well. The combat is just awesome when you get a combo flowing, jumping form bad guy to bad guy taking them down with ease. So I heartily recommend it to anyone with a 360 or PS3.

The game plot involves the Joker being caught by Batman and taken to Arkham, which by coincidence is filled with Joker’s goons transferred from another prison after a fire, which it turns out was a deliberate plan by the Joker to take over Arkham. The Joker has apparently planted bombs all around Gotham which he will detonate if anyone tries to get to the island, but you later find out that the bombs are filled with marzipan and kittens (no really), and that made me laugh. So you wander about trying your best to put the bad guys back where they belong while dealing with scores of goons. There are gadgets aplenty and a big area to wander about in, all in all a great game.

I’m only about 33% through the game so far as I’m taking my time to find some of the 240 ‘riddles’ that the Riddler has placed around the island. Some of the riddles are actual riddles that you need to solve by finding an object, while others are Riddler trophies, interviews with the enemies, maps and Arkham memories. So lots to find, and some of the interviews are awesome.

So well worth the wait and here is a pic I took after dealing with a rather nasty little sniper, he got what he deserved however painful it looks

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood

Time for another new game update. I’m currently playing Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood and it’s quite top.

It’s a first person shooter set in the Wicca-Wah-Wah West and you take the roll of 2 brothers who are searching for some gold that is said to be cursed, isn’t it always. There are loads of bad guys to kill and you can choose which of the 2 brothers you want to play as for most of the game, Ray (the one on the left) being the best one since he can dual wield his guns.

I’m not going to go into great detail on the game since I can’t be arsed right now, but if you like FPS’s and you like pretending you’re a cowboy then get it. And sorry about the title but it was the best way I could think of writing the song :)

It’s nearly my perfect game

Mr Stuff

Alex Mercer - PrototypeA little while ago I was looking about for which games were being released in the next few months and came across Prototype which sounded like it was kinda fun. So I picked up a copy yesterday and have to say it’s almost my perfect game and I shall now explain why.

You play as Alex Mercer who has been infected with some kind of virus, not far enough into the story to know much more than that, but has lost his memory. He wakes up on a morgue table and goes about trying to find out what happened to him. As a result of his infection Alex has some shape-shifting abilities (which is where all the fun lies) and uses these to help him find out what is going on. The first ability you use is how to consume people  during which you take on their appearance as well as their memories and abilities, later you consume a tank driver and from then on know how to drive a tank. This is really useful since if you consume a soldier you can then wander about in their bases without anyone taking any notice of you.

But just being able to look like someone else isn’t that much fun so we’ll moe onto the better abilities. Alex can turn his hands into claws, turn one of his hands into a whip, turn his hands to stone, turn one of his hands into a blade, run up the side of buildings and glide for a limited time to name but a few, and since all of this takes place in an open world slice of New York the possibilities are endless. There are always lots of civilians and infected for you to play with whether you carry them to the top of the highest building and throw them off or run through the streets knocking them all flying with your shield (which I did for about 20 minutes after getting the shield and it was great fun).

I really liked Crackdown but thought you really needed more powers and this game delivers on that in spades. There is just too much stuff you can do for me to go through it all so here is a vid I found with 10 reasons why you need to have this game. But beware if you have small children this game may not be for them, there is a lot of violence, slicing people into pieces and bad language (I’m mainly thinking you you there Ferg because you would love this game)

Bionic Commando

Mr Stuff

As a birthday present from my parents I got a copy of Bionic Commando for the 360 and have to say it’s great fun. You play a guy with a bionic arm that extends so that you can grab onto things order to swing about or throw stuff about, top fun. But better than that is 2 of the best achievement names I’ve come across which are detailed below.

There are 3 difficulty levels you can play on – Normal, Hard and Commando and these are the achievements for finishing the 2 higher difficulty levels. They made me laugh

BC - hard

BC - commando

Riddick is hard as

Mr Stuff

For a while now I’ve been waiting for the new Riddick game and it arrived last week, so I got it fairly cheap with some trade-ins, and am loving it so far.

The game follows the fortunes of Riddick, the anti-hero from Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick, as he is captured and traded by the merc Johns. There are 2 campaigns to play through, a remake of the Xbox classic Escape from Butcher Bay, and a new campaign Assault from Dark Athena.

So far I’ve only played through EfBB and it’s so much fun, the game has a lot of stealth elements where you shoot out all the lights so that you can take advantage of your ability to see in the dark. Then wander up behind a hapless guard and stick a screwdriver into his neck, sweet. If the guard spots you then you can duke it out with them and use some great counter-attacks if your timing is good, with one of them I managed to catch his punch and stick a shiv into his mouth :). I’ve just started playing through AoDA so I don’t really have a proper opinion on how good it is yet but it has started off well.

And Gears 2 now beaten on Insane

Mr Stuff

gears2insaneSome may say I have too much time on my hands but I just beat Gears of War 2 on insane on my own (you can play it co-op). It was quite satisfying, especially when you get to the end and run around on the Brumak knowing that you have pretty much finished it and are quite invincible. One of my favourite gaming feelings of all time I might say.

And because I’d only finished the game on casual before I got a nice 275 gamerpoints for finishing insane. Sweet

I got mad gaming skillz

Mr Stuff

gears_insaneWahey, I just beat Gears of War on insane difficulty, the hardest difficulty, on my own and I am quite pleased with the accomplishment. It wasn’t quite as satisfying as beating Ninja Gaiden II on Master Ninja but close, so I won’t be changing my gamerpic to the one I just unlocked but will keep my NG one.
